68. open mic no. 1
Welcome to Open Mic No. 1, the first in our Antisocial Social Club series for when Amelia just... can't. It's Friday night, it's 9:15pm, and I'm so grateful that this weekend, you gave me the words for when I don't have them myself.
If you enjoy this collection, let's keep it going. Please feel welcome and encouraged to respond with a short poem or piece of prose - it can be your writing or someone elses (with credit).
I'll be back to my usual antics tomorrow, but in the meantime, enjoy this mini-anthology of deep feeling.
xoxo,
Amelia
Longing
by Vianne Lore
I wish to be cradled by the sea,
Its waves wrapping me in their timeless lullaby,
Hugged by the meadows, where each blade of grass
Whispers ancient stories of the earth,
Kissed by the wind, wild and untamed,
Its breath a sweet promise of freedom,
Adored by the sky, endless and eternal,
A lover who never turns away,
Possessed by the stars,
Their light igniting the darkest parts of my soul,
Guiding me into a dream where I belong.

Bride
by Maggie Smith
How long have I been wed
to myself? Calling myself
darling, dressing for my own
pleasure, each morning
choosing perfume to turn
me on. How long have I been
alone in this house but not
alone? Married less
to the man than to the woman
silvering with the mirror.
I know the kind of wife
I need and I become her:
the one who will leave
this earth at the same instant
I do. I am my own bride,
lifting the veil to see
my face. Darling, I say,
I have waited for you all my life.

Sea Stone Sonnet
by Mary Mallory
A stone I found beside the sea,
smooth and wet, reflected me;
and all the ocean, sun and sand,
within that stone was in my hand.
I saved the stone, the day, the shore,
among my ocean, treasure store
of feathers, broken shells and strings-
special secret sorts of things.
But isolated, beauty, fails.
Water dries and color pales.
My stone when dry soon lost the day
of sun-baked sand and salty spray.
Just like my stone, I cannot share
my joys without anotherâs care.

Under Water
by Pixie Lighthorse
We contain in these bodies
the lubricating substance
that gives life
that covers most of the Earth
It is ours to drown in
or be hydrated by
as is our will.
