65. cosmic daze
âI like to work with the energy of Venus day,â Camden said, and I nodded, listening to the voice note as I sat outside in the sun, âbut I also like the energy of Jupiter day.â
I knew exactly what she meant.
It may be Greek to some, but itâs actually Roman. Around three thousand years ago, when the Roman calendar was created, these gods and goddesses were known to have rulership over the planets and luminaries (sun and moon) and each had influence over a particular day of the week.
The idea is that every day has certain qualities, in addition to the unique astrology of the actual cosmos. By aligning with the energy and motivation of each day, we can create more harmony and flow in our lives.
When I first learned about these associations from my teacher Heidi Rose Robbins, I filed it away in my mind as interesting, but not necessarily gospel truth. I still hold it pretty loosely, but I have found that attuning to the days in relation to their cosmic rulers offers perspective, insight, and a gentle guiding compass to my days.
Astrology Days & Ancient Zodiac Associations
Monday · Moon Day · Cancer
Inner World, Feelings, Emotions, Feminine, Mother, Water, Intuition
What if Mondays arenât meant for hustle? What if they are the time to focus on feeling, sensing, and slowly opening to the week ahead? Ruled by the moon, Mondays are a time to nurture, nourish, and gently tend yourself, asking for intuitive guidance on how to direct your week.
Tuesday · Mars Day · Aries & Scorpio
Action, Motivation, Passion, Drive, Courage, Beginnings, Initiation
Tuesdays are time to turn on the heat towards whatever it is you desire to accomplish in the week ahead. Connecting with Mars energy might mean igniting your inner fire with a warming workout or breathwork, then channeling your early-week energy into an ambitious to-do list or tackling the work tasks and errands that require the most energy.
Wednesday · Mercury Day · Gemini & Virgo
Mind, Intellect, Communications, Knowledge, Learning, Expression
Think of Wednesdays as the day to cross your Tâs and dot your Iâs: make the phone calls youâve been putting off, send emails, write content or copy, do your homework, whatever asks you to use clarity and mental acuity to create connection and get your message across.
Thursday · Jupiter Day · Sagittarius & Pisces
Growth, Expansion, Spirituality, Generosity, Prosperity, Wealth, Philosophy
Thursdays feel like optimism, hope, potential and possibility. Something about knowing the end of the work week is near can feel expansive and positive, and yield abundance and completion of tasks from earlier in the week. Whether you want growth in your mindset, bank account, spiritual path, or any other area, Jupiter generally says yes, so Thursdays are a time to set your sights a little higher and be willing to take some risks (aligned with your inner wisdom) to move towards your dreams.
Friday · Venus Day · Taurus & Libra
Love, Beauty, Harmony, Relationships, Pleasure, Money, Art, Creativity
Ah, Venus Day, my favorite day of the week. Thereâs a special magic on Fridays and itâs more than TGIF. I often find myself cleaning my altar, pulling cards for my clients, and taking extra time to feel good in my body on Fridays. I sense the Goddess and lean into her energy.
Saturday · Saturn Day · Capricorn & Aquarius
Responsibility, Discipline, Karma, Commitment, Practicality
Chores, basically. I mean Saturn day is about obligations and responsibilities, which arenât necessarily a bad thing; they can even be thought of as a beautiful reflection of our maturity and privilege. We get to do three (okay six) loads of laundry. We get to clean the house, our safe abode. We get to spend time with our adorable little progeny and practice being in the committed necessary work that is parenthood. Overall, a time to tend what needs tending and solidify the traditions and structures in your life.
Sunday · Sun Day · Leo
Rest, Grace, Space, Warmth, Light, Joy, Play
Sun Day, just like it sounds. A time for rest, contemplation, and divine connection⊠or maybe just a long nap. Whether itâs cultural or astrological, Sundays are a time for doing less, and being more in our natural radiance.
Today's Tuesday Martian Daze
Itâs Tuesday as I write this, and I Mars-ed too hard today. I woke up, took my meds, got the kids ready for school, pushed myself hard in my workout, tackled most of my work to-do list, lit the fire under myself to finish a website copywriting for a beloved client, didnât slow down to have a proper lunch, jammed back in for a meeting with my SEO specialist, back to back with client sessions, and not until I left the office at 7pm did the adrenaline dump hit me. I sat slumped at dinner, feeling the afterburn of too much Mars energy. I have very little fire in my chart, and Iâm still learning how to properly stoke what I do have without burning myself out.
Tomorrow, Mercury day, I have two classes for school plus my Rose Oracle shamanic therapy training. I gotta send in some paperwork for new life insurance policies for Brent and I, and draft the personal invitations for an upcoming project that Iâm excited about. Mercury rules my personal Moon, Venus & Mars (all in Virgo), so itâs an energy that feels more natural to me than Martian fire.
But every week, without fail, I hold a special place in my heart - and on my calendar - for Venus day. This is when I schedule soul-deep chats with the women I love, make extra space for breathwork or bodywork, take time to slow down and have a leisurely lunch with my lover, or beg off work and sit outside with my paints instead. Is it Friday yet?
Whatâs interesting is that my favorite days: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, happen to be the days associated with my âbig threeâ - primal triad in astrology. Mondays are my sigh of relief that my kids are back in school (donât judge me, let me live), Wednesdays are my peak of mental power and learning (which I love) and Fridays are when I somehow magically remember that the secret of life is to let the beauty of what we love be what we do (so I do it).
One last thought: I was speaking with a client today about what makes astrology such a powerful system of magic and meaning-making.
âAstrology gives us stories,â I said, âand humans are storytellers, always searching and seeking to place ourselves within the context of a much larger tale - the story of Earth, Life, and the Cosmos. Astrology offers us a way to understand ourselves, to make sense of an often senseless world, and to tell more interesting stories about why things unfold the way they do. Whether itâs âtrueâ or not in an empirical sense is not the point. What matters is that we search the stars for stories that make sense to us, that bridge matter and spirit, and then share them with each other in the pursuit of mutual understanding.â
With that, my little Martian friends, Iâm off to bed, to snuff my flickering, fading ember, all thatâs left of todayâs fire, and let myself fall into a heavy, long-awaited sleep.
