Pisces: Where the Veil Grows Thin

In general, Pisces full moons are a bit... confusing. Dreamy. Trancelike. As if the veil between this world and the Otherworld grows thinner as the moon reaches peak luminosity.

As if we are descending into the ocean of our own subconscious, where forgotten emotions, old attachments, dreams, symbols, and unknown lurking creatures await. Sometimes we are pulled back beneath the surface because there is still something there we need to see before we can truly move forward.

But Pisces is two fish, not just one - so as one swims down to the depths, the other floats up in the astral realms, in the place that knows our divine essence, in the soft presence of trust in the flow of Life.

Or sometimes, Pisces swings and swims between these two, and we aren't sure which way is up.

Combine Pisces energy with an eclipse, which is a reversal of the normal lunar order, and we get a vibe that's a bit topsy-turvy.

Your invitation is to flow with whatever arises. Of course, Pisces is notorious for waterworks. That might look like a massive unexpected emotional breakdown, the kind of cry that leaves your chest heaving a little (ahem, me about five hours before this eclipse), or it could be something more cataclysmic on a global scale, like the sudden intense rains and flash floods in Nepal yesterday. Pisces opens us to the awareness that we are all connected, to each other, and to something bigger than ourselves.

The simplest way to think of a Pisces full moon eclipse is that there is likely to be a sudden illumination of how you really feel, or what is really important at the spiritual level.

This particular full moon is closing two years of eclipses on the Pisces-Virgo axis. Under the coppery light of the blood moon, we'll softly surrender and let go of the Pisces North Node, and won't see it again for nearly twenty years.

The Pisces north node has taught about intuitive, flowing acceptance, spiritual and emotional healing. We've been invited to cultivate self-compassion over logic and control. Particularly since February, we've been navigating high currents of creativity, idealism, and vision, and tested in whether we can keep grounded enough to avoid unhealthy escapism or delusion.

Pisces ultimately helps us learn to trust the unseen, to develop a relationship with the Great Mystery. As you meet this eclipse, pay attention to your dreams, signs, synchronicities, and trust that the message you're meant to receive is already here - even if it doesn't make 'perfect' logical sense.

The End of an Era

Virgo season began smack dab in the middle of an eclipse portal, the two-week period between the Leo new moon south node total solar eclipse (read about it here) and the Pisces full moon lunar eclipse conjunct the north node in Aquarius.

This eclipse is the end of an era. The full moon lunar eclipse in Pisces is the last North Node eclipse in this sign until 2034, when we have a single lunation with an out of sign conjunction to North Node in Aries - and we won't fully revisit the North Node in Pisces until 2043.

Eclipses return to a particular nodal axis once every 18.5 years. So as we close the north node in Pisces, south node in Virgo story, we're wrapping up what we learned in 2006-2008, and again in 2024-26, and won't study again until 2043-45. How have you learned to trust, leaning into faith, compassion, creative surrender, and acceptance of the unknown? Give yourself credit for releasing rigidity and the trap of trying to fix or organize every flaw.

Now, come back to the present: the August 28 full moon and lunar eclipse at 4° Pisces, sitting five degrees away from the north node in Aquarius. Our collective destiny, the area where we'll feel hunger and increase over the next two years, is in the sign of the water bearer: the revolutionary, rebel genius, and reformer who shakes up old systems, stress testing them to see what can move forward with us into a shared future.

On September 10, the new moon in Virgo closes this eclipse portal, and we begin the lifelong process of integrating what we've learned over the past two years. An ending, and a beginning.

The nodes, unlike the planets, seem to move backwards in orbital relation to Earth. This means that once we've learned the lesson of the Pisces north node (there is a spiritual dimension of reality, and we all belong to it), we're called to practice the lessons of Aquarius (building a shared future, moving humanity forward). Aquarius promises that we each have a part to play in the bigger picture, and we do so by becoming our full, authentic, unapologetically different selves. We agree to shape unity through our diversity.

The August 28 eclipse is a release (full moon) of the emotional (lunar eclipse) habit patterns holding us back from stepping into our service to the world (Aquarius north node).
