Leo 20° New Moon Total Solar Eclipse

Show Up and Tell the Truth

The Leo New Moon Total Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026 lands at 20 degrees Leo, joined by Jupiter and Mercury, and trine a retrograde Saturn in Aries. It's the first Leo South Node eclipse since the last one closed out in February 2009, and it's picking up the exact same question that cycle first asked: what have you been performing so you could be loved, and who are you underneath the mask?

Eclipses work by reversing the usual roles of sun and moon. What's normally on display goes dark, and what's been hidden comes into the light. Because Leo governs the sun itself, personality, ego, creative gifts, this eclipse lands close to identity. It's less about what you do next and more about who you are when nobody's watching.

Below, you'll find the full chart breakdown (the fire, the grand air trine, Saturn's steadying hand), a look back at what was seeded during the last Leo-Aquarius eclipse cycle from 2008 to 2010, and a personal reading by house so you can find exactly where this eclipse is doing its work in your own chart. If you're new to eclipse season or just want a refresher on how South Node eclipses work, this is a good place to start.

Leo: Where Body & Heart Meet

I almost didn't move my body today. I almost didn't breathe. I almost got swept up in the fire of creativity and enthusiasm to bring more of my vision into the world, and just sat down to work. But I noticed a tension in my heart, too much fire energy, too much air energy in my body, and it felt like anxiety. So I reminded myself: every time I choose to tend the vessel of my body and my breath, everything that comes after is better. My mood is better. My creative output is better. My focus is better. This feels meaningful today, as we experience the Leo South Node total solar eclipse.

Looking Back: Leo-Aquarius Eclipses 2008-2010

Welcome back to South Node in Leo. We haven't been somewhere like here since February 9, 2009, and while you may not recall exactly what you were doing that day, in some way, a story was beginning that had to do with pulling down pedestals, daring to risk vulnerability in being seen, and facing the fallout of where some overinflated egos (maybe even our own) experienced a fall from grace.

Let's zoom out a little and peer back at that eclipse window, the cycle on the Aquarius North Node - Leo South Node that took place from 2008 - 2010. Scope the dates (and your diary, if you have one). What was alive for you then?

February 7, 2008: Solar Eclipse in Aquarius August 1, 2008: Total Solar Eclipse in Leo August 16, 2008: Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius January 26, 2009: Solar Eclipse in Aquarius February 9, 2009: Lunar Eclipse in Leo August 6, 2009: Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius

What changed in your heart, personal spotlight, courage, self-worth, and authentic creative output during that time span? How did you step out of performance, and into more authentic self-hood?

The Now Moment: Leo New Moon August 12, 2026

The Leo South Node Eclipse on August 12 brings us back to these themes, but as a whole new self. When an eclipse lands on the South Node, something we have outgrown (in past and present life patterns) is being asked to leave, whether or not we feel finished with it.

Fundamentally, an eclipse is a reversal of the normal roles of the sun and moon. What is normally seen goes dark, and what's been hidden comes into blazing light. Eclipse season feels intense because the script suddenly changes, and life moves in a direction we may not have chosen, but nevertheless needs.

Because Leo rules the Sun (personality, ego, skills, gifts, our innate radiance and ego-self), this eclipse cuts close to identity and reveals through reversal, who we are when nobody is watching. At 20° Leo, the moon is joined by Jupiter and Mercury. Sanity, our emotional wellbeing, our spiritual growth, and our mental health are all being asked, together, to risk the vulnerability of authentic self-expression.

The whole Leo lineup wants more bold creativity from us, more childlike wonder, more pleasure and play. There is a lot of fire and air active in this chart: six planets sit in fire signs, three more form a grand air trine, and Mars stands nearly alone in Cancer, at 0 degrees as the eclipse peaks.

The Leo lineup trines Saturn at 14° Aries, now station retrograde, and in this is Saturn delving into our inner architecture, doing the "inner work" so to speak, to construct a more solid foundation for our 30 year vision. Part of this is toppling inner tyrants, pulling down pedestals, and helping us see that we are not so very different from those we have idealized, in the best way - if they can live out loud, so can we. As Jupiter at 9° Leo continues direct, it moves into a more exact trine in the coming months with Saturn, until they come into exact 120° harmony August 31 - September 2. This marks an interior alignment point related to our expansion, rooted in the heart. The August 12 eclipse seeds this, continuing the story we revisit every 18 years about our lion-hearted, confident embodied selfhood.

Pluto at 4° Aquarius, Uranus at 4° Gemini, and Venus at 5° Libra form a grand air trine alongside all of this, equipping us with real relational intelligence: clarity, communication, and the capacity to change how we think, speak, and find balance, equity, and justice inside our relationships.

It's also an invitation to release our Leo shadows: self-obsession, the I-me-mine loop, the hunger for external validation, and just as often, holding back from shining at all out of fear of rejection, neglect, or being told we're too much.

The eclipse doesn't ask anything of you. It's not calling for ritual, or manifestation, only reversing the normal order of things momentarily, prompting us to ask: what have I been performing so I would be loved, and what would I create if no one were watching at all?

Show Up & Tell the Truth

That last Leo South Node eclipse, February 9, 2009, was about taking off the masks of performativity, of seeking external validation, of putting on airs of who we had to be in order to be loved. It illuminated and revealed what was being released. And it was around that time that I received one of the most profound and lasting pieces of divine instruction I've ever received, one that has guided my life ever since. It was simple. It was wisdom of the heart, my own blessed self speaking to me clearly, saying: show up and tell the truth.

This is the mandate of Leo. Show up and tell the truth of who you are. Your own lioness roar, the bonfire of your own heart. What will you say into the microphone of your own making? How do you risk the vulnerability of truly being seen and heard? By allowing yourself to have a creative vision, a creative voice. You are creating not just your art and your work, but the entirety of your life. Your selfhood is your most important creative project.

And even so, as a South Node eclipse, this also reminds us it's not all about you - and it also is. You are absolutely the center of the universe. And so am I. And so is he, and she, and they. So we're called to show up, tell the truth, take up space, find that bonfire of the heart, and cultivate that confident, embodied selfhood that is ours and ours alone, while also recognizing that the same fire exists in every other human. The vulnerability we're risking is one that builds a bridge from one heart to another. That is leadership. That is what we're bringing forth to the collective, the touch point for the Aquarius polarity. When we are more of our full selves, we can bring our unique genius to the group, to the community, to the cause, to the shifts in system that move us toward a better, shared future.

If you wake up today with extra fire, extra air, remember: the vessel and vehicle of your awakening, the one that holds the heart, is this physical body. Leo also rules athleticism, recreation, pleasure, play, creative art, cooking, dancing, singing, laughing, playing with the fact that we are wearing this human costume, and that life is a stage, and we are the actors, and we get to design the character we are performing. And that character becomes our habits, becomes our relationships, becomes our experiences, becomes our environment, becomes our world.

So who do you want to be? And what does that ask you to let go of? What parts of the mask can fall? Leo asks us to live each moment answering just one question: Who am I?

Wishing you a beautiful Leo eclipse. Wishing you the eclipse you need. May we all remember who we are, and then show up and tell the truth as them.

Making It Personal: Leo New Moon Eclipse through the Houses

Read for the house where 20° Leo falls in your chart; that's where this eclipse is doing its releasing work. The opposite house, where the Aquarius North Node point lands, shows you what's being invited in return. For the most precise read, come in for a session.

1st House Eclipse / North Node in 7th House Something about your identity, your body, your way of entering a room is ready to be released. Old performances of self, the ones built for applause, have run their course. The invitation is in the mirror as much as it's in relationship: let another person witness who, and let yourself be witnessed, as who you are beneath the mask.

2nd House Eclipse / North Node in 8th House A release around money, self-worth, and what you value for its own sake is here. Old patterns of performing security, or performing abundance, are ready to go. What's invited is real intimacy with resources shared, not just held solo. Values that have shaped your self-worth are being cleared and refined.

3rd House Eclipse / North Node in 9th House Communication, siblings, your immediate community: a way of thinking, speaking and connecting is completing. Old habits of speaking to be liked rather than to be true are ripe to be released. The invitation is a bigger belief, bigger philosophy, a truth worth traveling for.

4th House Eclipse / North Node in 10th House Home and family patterns, the private self, are where the releasing lands. Inherited roles you've outgrown, the good daughter, the strong one, can be set down. Taking off the masks that were required in your family system of origin. What's invited in return is visible leadership, letting your private truth inform your public purpose.

5th House Eclipse / North Node in 11th House Leo's natural house, so this one runs hot. Creativity, romance, self-expression: a whole cycle of performing for approval is completing. Creating for it's own sake, not for the approval of the community, but because what is cleared in your creative fire will serve something even bigger than your own spotlight.

6th House Eclipse / North Node in 12th House Your body, your daily rhythms, your relationship to service: old patterns of proving your worth through output are ready to be released. How the heart needs to be recognized for your service, your labor, your endless giving, is being cleared, so you can drop into the heart of what you truly need for wellness. What's invited is rest, surrender, and a quieter, less visible kind of devotion.

7th House Eclipse / North Node in 1st House Partnerships and the ways you've performed for a "we" are completing. Any agreement built on shrinking to be chosen is ready to go. What's invited is you, unfiltered, unapologetic, taking up space as your full, fire-hearted self. Old ways of seeking approval through relationships are clearing, and a deeper understanding of love and self-love is being seeded.

8th House Eclipse / North Node in 2nd House Intimacy, shared resources, the parts of you kept hidden even from people close to you: this is where the release happens. An old fear of being fully seen can finally be let go. What's invited is a steadier, more embodied sense of your own worth. You know the truth blazing in your heart, and you're brave and honest enough now to embrace it. What's being cleared are shadows around a hidden unlovable self, what's seeding is authenticity in values.

9th House Eclipse / North Node in 3rd House Beliefs, higher education, the bigger philosophy or spirituality you performed rather than lived: a chapter completes here. Old ideologies, perhaps those that held others on pedestals, are clearing. Tyrants in your own belief system are being toppled. What's invited is your actual voice, speaking and connecting locally, in your own words, even when it means you might be misunderstood.

10th House Eclipse / North Node in 4th House Career, public role, reputation built on performance: something reaches visible completion. Old definitions of success inherited from authority can be released. What's invited is home, the foundation of interior emotional safety you build from your own truth, not how you're perceived in the outer world. Constructs that constricted your creative self-expression, and blocked you from risking the vulnerability of being seen, are being cleared. You're seeding a freer experience of leading with the heart, in public and private realms alike.

11th House Eclipse / North Node in 5th House Friendships, groups, the collective identity you performed to belong: a completion is happening here. Communities that require you to dilute yourself are ready to be released, along with your fear of being your full self in the groups, networks and organizations you contribute to. You're learning what it means to lead by sharing the mic, without shrinking from your turn to speak into it. What's invited is liberating your own creative self-expression by showing up and telling the truth in social circles - and yes, that includes social media.

12th House Eclipse / North Node in 6th House Endings, the subconscious, the parts of you no one sees: deep, quiet material is surfacing to be released. The heart of the matter - in the spiritual and symbolic realm - is revealing itself, showing you what bravery means at the divine level. A quiet joy, a burning heart of vision, a dropping of the masks you've held in your own spiritual understanding - these are all on the table. What is seeded here is the flame of the heart, invited into your daily rituals, routines, craft and service, and a freer way of bridging the sacred and the mundane.
