Soul Studio

An experiential learning journey for psycho-spiritual practitioners.

You already do this work in some way, by sitting with people in the hardest hours of their lives - times of transformation, unraveling, and becoming their next selves.

Your toolkit is already strong, with experience, certifications, licenses, lineage or years of personal practice.

Even so, there are moments in a session when something opens that you may not feel entirely equipped for: the well of grief, visions from expanded consciousness, or a silence that feels like more than technique can answer.

Soul Studio is an experiential training that enables you to show up in those sessions with confidence, clarity and grace: where you deepen trust in your skill as a psycho-spiritual practitioner.

Purpose

People today are more aware than ever of the need to create safe spaces, but also more exhausted than ever in navigating constant overwhelm. We're seeking relief and breathing room, but want something deeper than a quick fix or easy numbing to the pain and challenge of life. We're looking for meaningful, sustainable ways to abide in the world's ongoing devastation without collapsing.

Rather than adding more, people are realizing we must subtract what no longer belongs - excess stuff, toxic relationships, never-ending busyness, and information overload - to strip away the noise of the world; to hear and remember the wisdom of the soul. The work of spiritual counselors, soul workers, depth psychologists, creative artists, and modern mystics is depth work: how we connect with, reveal, and translate the wisdom of the soul; create inner spaciousness; and make sense of why we exist in this world.

Soul Studio creates a space for psycho-spiritual practitioners and spiritual space holders to deepen self-awareness, refine skills, and further develop their unique methodologies for providing clients and loved ones with soul-level support.

The Program

This exploratory, experiential learning program delves into the intricacies of psycho-spiritual support and offers ongoing practice on holding a spiritual counseling relationship and container. Over ten months, participants will develop and refine their understanding of the participatory, co-creative nature of the alchemical encounter in spiritual counseling and space-holding for depth work.

By privileging self-awareness as a gateway to attunement, Soul Studio helps practitioners of depth work become more skilled and confident in supporting people through processes of soul-making and meaning-making. This is an embodied, integrated approach to psycho-spiritual counseling, depth psychology, mythopoetic and creative ritual which draws from established knowledge within western psychology as well as from contemplative, non-dual wisdom traditions, personal myth-making, and creative, alternative 'ways of knowing' beyond the modern Western academic context.

It is both a transformative experiential program and an expansive professional training for helpers and healers across various modalities: yoga teachers, therapists, astrologers, medical professionals, coaches, psychological and spiritual practitioners who want a rigorous integrative framework to deepen their skill, build confidence with clients, meet themselves more deeply, and refine a unique methodology for bridging spiritual counseling and soul-deep care into their existing body of work.

A year-long professional development at the intersection of self discovery and psycho-spiritual facilitation: weaving mindfulness practices, somatic healing, art therapy, depth psychology, shadow work, and rites of passage.

How This Differs from Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy can be about coping and adjustment. Spiritual counseling, soul guidance work, and space holding for depth work may be more about initiation and rewriting our relationship to the whole.

In these modalities, we are rewilding the psyche; honoring the impulses that go beyond what we can contain and control, and letting them guide us. Allowing the subaltern within us to speak.

Who Is This For?

This is probably not right for you if

  • You need accredited CE hours for license renewal. We will provide the curriculum for you to submit to governing bodies, but this program is not accredited by any specific board.
  • You want a license to practice psychotherapy.
  • You're looking for a fast credential or paper validation, rather than actually doing the work that equips you to hold space.
  • You're in acute crisis, which would be better tended by therapy or psychiatric support.
  • You're unwilling to explore shadow, grief, expanded states of consciousness, and ancestral material.
  • You're looking for one pure lineage or tradition of spiritual teaching. This is an integral approach that respectfully draws from different wisdom traditions.
  • You just want to observe - every session asks you to participate in dialogue, group reflection, or peer practices.

Core Values & Guiding Principles

PRESENCE

We recognize the power of attention, and choose to direct it fully to the present moment as a way to affirm our aliveness and ground into embodied awareness. By practicing mindfulness, open awareness, and ecological sensing, we embrace the organic intelligence that suffuses all life and moves us continually toward coherence and the remembrance of our wholeness.

CREATE

We recognize our power as creators, and choose to participate in the co-creative unfolding of the universe, becoming artists of possibility. By embracing the creative process without agenda and inviting exploratory expression, we affirm the value of chaos and creativity within the greater cosmic drama of life. We are soul-makers, designers of fate, and beauty-tenders celebrating life as canvas for imagination.

RELATE

We recognize the principle of holism, that the whole is something greater than the sum of its parts. We affirm the interconnectedness of life as a web of relationships, some of which are human, all of which are deserving of our respect. Through a collaborative, communicative approach to learning, we grow in empathy, compassion, knowledge and wisdom as it is co-constructed through interaction, dialogue, and multiple perspectives.

Self-Awareness & Attunement

When it comes to depth work, self-awareness is the gateway to skilled attunement.

Often, the places you haven't explored within yourself are places you may unconsciously steer a person away from by changing the subject, offering a reframe, or reaching for a tool. These strategies can all be supportive, but only insofar as they are rooted in attunement - mastering the art of being with what is presenting in your client.

Attunement is a byproduct of your own interior spaciousness. By making more room in yourself, you can hold more of another person's experience without needing it to be different.

Most training programs work on your skill set, which is important, but incomplete without refining the instrument of spiritual counseling and depth work - you, the facilitator and partner for your client's journey.

Soul Studio centers your own journey of self-discovery, so you can hold space for soul work safely, with greater integrity, skill, and confidence.

Four Studios

Four seasonal 8-week studios. Alternating creative studio (self) and peer practice (other) sessions, one immersion day per studio, and one main creative project for the entire term.

Each live session includes a reading review and discussion of one required reading and 1-2 recommended articles, drawn from a co-constructed library organized by module.

Studio 1 · Attunement Arts

OPEN · HEAR · FEEL

You can hold space in sessions for the messy middle, trusting the client's journey of spiritual unfolding.

The Art of Being with What Is. The Art of Deep Listening. The Art of Attunement. Closing immersion: the Art of Holding Space.

You'll work with - soul psychology theory and decolonial praxis, contraindications for psycho-spiritual counsel, cultural humility, silent deep listening dyads, becoming the sacred mirror, and rupture and repair.

Project — Soul Masks. Create a paper mache mask; half representing ego, the other soul.

Studio 2 · Depth Arts

PARTS · SHADOW · DREAM

You're able to observe your own shadows, projections, and areas ripe for transference - without letting them influence the client container.

The Art of Parts Work. The Art of Shadow Work. The Art of Dream Work.

You'll work with - inner sanctuary council, the Gestalt empty chair, Jungian shadow and individuation, the golden shadow, the collective shadow, and dream journals. The immersion closes with Gestalt group re-dreaming.

Project — (He)Art of the SubAltern. Create an art piece or altar for disavowed part or shadow aspect.

Studio 3 · Symbolic Arts

SEE · ORACLE · MYTH

You have a trusted toolkit of creative arts and active imagination practices to integrate into your existing work.

The Art of Symbols. The Art of Divination. The Art of Mythopoetic Storytelling.

Guiding principle: the message is the moment.

You'll work with - active imagination, the imaginal realm, the three forms of divination, the oracular body, earth and voice, oracle keys, and the re-storying of personal myth. The immersion closes with soul collage, neurographic art and oracular breathwork.

Project — Oracular Divination & Creative Revelation of Personal Myth. Example: Poetic Bibliomancy & Collage Oracle Key.

Studio 4 · Ritual Arts

HOLD · RITUAL · CEREMONY

You walk away with trust in your unique methodology of creating ritual, ceremony, and transformative rites of passage.

The Art of Holding Space. The Art of Transformation. The Art of Honoring Life.

You'll work with - what creates an effective container: the purpose of the vessel, structural integrity and boundaries, tending the relational field.

The three S's of holding space: Self · Sacred · Space.

The seven qualities of held space: presence, attunement, spaciousness, neutrality, compassion, unconditional positive regard, and possibility.

Tri-phasic transformation. The magic of the liminal realm. Ritual as technology of the sacred. Theurgy, not liturgy.

Project — Rebuilding the Temple. Collaborative, co-created ceremony in which all participants hold space.

Faculty

Amelia Travis, MA, Certified Spiritual Counselor, E-RYT 500

I finished my master's in East-West Psychology at forty, after spending twenty-five years studying yoga, breathwork, women's mysteries, creative and ritual arts. I was a facilitator long before I had letters after my name. I chose academic rigor when I knew exactly what I wanted to research, and was ready for the credential to support my existing body of work.

Soul is woven into everything I do: spiritual business coaching, counseling astrology, women's rites of passage, and medicine work. Depth psychology, ecopsychology, and spiritual counseling are foundational in my work. Since 2014, I've trained and coached well over a thousand practitioners and entrepreneurs, and space holding is at the center of it all.
